December 2024 Featured Artist - Amy Keane

Following my 35 year corporate career, leading customer service operations in the financial and insurance industries, I retired to see the world. My husband and I left our home in Maine and moved to Ecuador, South America and then onto Europe, where we landed in Portugal. After nearly a decade of “adventure retirement” we returned to the states and relocated to Sun City Hilton Head in 2019.

I began my watercolor journey while living in Portugal, where I joined an international women’s organization in Cascais. There, I was lucky enough to meet a wonderful group of supportive and talented women artists. They encouraged me to “ follow my muse,” which at that time was the elusive blue lobster from Maine.) Through their expert guidance, I fell in love with the creative and meditative practice of watercolor.

Here in South Carolina, I continue to take classes, seeking out mentors to both learn and explore new styles and approaches with this fascinating medium. I particularly love painting impressionistic animals, landscapes and florals, but am open to any subject and participate regularly in art shows to stretch myself and build up the “ brush miles” that my instructors have taught is the key to improving my art.

I take great joy is in seeing others enjoy my paintings. This collection represents some of my favorite works, created both here and in Portugal. I hope you enjoy them too.
