After retirement, I decided to take a drawing class at the Adult Studies in the evenings at the local high school. That led to a drawing teacher who was also a watercolorist. She taught classes from her home studio; it was convenient to my home, so off I went. She was a wonderful teacher and taught me how to draw and paint…….I forgot much of what she taught me about drawing, but it led me to the world of watercolor.
I painted portraits mostly, but during the transition of moving from Maryland to Sun City, I put painting on the shelf as I was getting familiar with Sun City and all it has to offer.
I had a twin brother who passed away a few years ago after a bout with cancer and I painted a portrait of him for his family. It sparked my interest in painting again. I had a friend who had a beautiful Havanese that became ill and suddenly died. I painted a portrait of his dog for him and word spread. Now, most of my subjects are cats and dogs…….it’s a most rewarding feeling to present a pet portrait to a client knowing they will have their pet memories forever each time they see the painting.
I encourage all to start or continue your painting skills; it’s quite rewarding.
